Super Adventure 3a: Bottomless. Investigate and stop the disappearance of civilians at Fort Carson, Colorado.

1

Today I proclaim to the world the deeds of Delta Green. This is the brotherhood to which all secret things are known, the seers of mysteries and knowers of truth, whose sacrificial offerings keep sealed the horrors of the gods beyond the stars.

You have seen our deeds in your divination tablets. You have seen Chief Belligerant Hegesh-Eth of the Amerites call fire from the heavens to annihilate us. You have seen it burn your cities and fortresses.

But also you have seen, in dark of night, our chariot of fire blazing across the heavens still, for it is we who step nearer to the gods and not he.

2

Long had I slumbered in ancient chambers beneath the holy city of Uz, city of the mighty rampart and the eternal flame, awaiting the future. But though all things end pulled into Mot's ever-hungering gullet, time is a spiral walking backwards, and I find that the future much resembles what I know of the past.

Delta Green, the fraternal order that pulled me from my capsule, received me warmly. For long unknown to them were the days of the Kings of Uz, and of Almodad, and of New Jerah, and of Gether, and of the many wonders of these that I could tell them, and of the gods of those cities, who crossed the sea of night to dwell among men and poison them with their dreaming.

And so these things I told to them, and in return they proclaimed me Special Agent, sacred worker of their wonders upon the earth.

3

Delta Green gave me a sacred mission. We were sent forward, myself and another man, Luzius Fax, one of the storied Lords of Light, to prepare the way for a Special Operation:

Great crowds of the ignorant unwashed were disappearing into the mouth of the Fortress of Karsun, which guards the bountiful Springs of Kal Urud, deep in the territory of the Amerites, and the Order demanded that this sacrilege cease.

Much was unknown to us, and to the Order, and to accomplish our work this unknowing needed banishing. So into the land of the Amerites we sojourned, across the great deserts of the interior, seeking the city surrounding the fortress.

4

On arrival, Luzius pursued two strategems:

  1. He went about the city, appearing as a messiah unto the people, healing the sick and gathering the wretched. These followers cleaved to him, to serve as a great sacrifice to the gods when the time came.
  2. He performed rituals begging aid of the Shining God of Ilion, and a messenger did appear before us, wearing the guise of a desert lamia. This he sent forth to probe Karsun's defenses.

5

Meanwhile, I followed a different path:

  1. In any new land, the first order is the sanctifying of the earth and the dedication of a temple. This I have done many times. So, finding an abandoned dwelling, I sought the deepest point within and tunneled into the earth, and then cast it into darkness, and then I slew a man, and then cast him into darkness, and then I ate of his flesh, sending his soul below. And divine Mot was not pleased but was made present, awaiting with open mouth. And thus the first task was done.
  2. Next I prowled the streets, seeking the lowly. This was simple, for they are many within the lands of the Amerites. And among them I found one who knew where the defenders of Karsun took their leisure, for often they partook of her trade, and one of these she offered to lure in exchange for a portion of a rare vapor of which she was enamored. This is easily procured with coin on the streets of Kal Urud, and so this I did, and she agreed to bring a defender of Karsun within reach of my jaws.

So lured, the cousin of death fell upon him, and he found himself in my temple.

6

He was a man, though an unusual kind of man - squat and strong of limb, his body bound with black cord, which terminated in a box affixed to his skull behind the ear.

Knowing much magic of the ancients, this device I knew to emit a silent hymn that travels the air and speaks to other such boxes at far remove, so I severed it from him with my claws. The man immediately seized, his body's strength fleeing from him, and had Luzius not arrived to pour life back into him he would surely have been devoured on the spot - first his soul by divine Mot, and then his body by myself - but this proved unnecessary.

Instead, he rested for a time, and then we spoke, and with patience and application of craft I learned a great many things from him:

7

The other Special Agents then began arriving at the temple and making their own ritual preparations. These are their names, recorded here that the teeth of Mot may find purchase on their souls when they die:

8

Luzius and I reported our progress, of how we prepared the way, and Luzius informed that his lamia confirms much of what the captive had said to me, and provided additional detail of the enemy's armament and of the contents of the train station.

Sahajim, our leader, hearing that our forward base might be compromised, rightly took this as opportunity, declaring that we use the temple as a trap for our enemies.

It is unfortunate that I must abandon this temple so quickly. But we would make great sacrifice here, sending many souls to the mouth of Mot. So I elected to assist the death-walker 10-K in preparing a ritual of conflagration. He was placing artifacts he termed 'IEDs' about the temple. Each of these I blessed in Mot's name, that their sacred fire consume the soul just as quickly as they would consume the flesh.

And then I said farewell to this temple as we departed for the fortress.

9

Most of the other Special Agents went ahead, to meet with Luzius' cult followers and batter them against Karsun's gate. But Lantry, Li Xiao, and I split off from the others and instead approached an unguarded stretch of the fortress' outer wall, awaiting a signal.

It started small, but then quickly grew in volume. First chanting, and then singing, and then praising the name of Luzius Messiah, and then the pop-pop-pop of Amerite armament, and then screaming, and then explosions everywhere. The others were doing their part, pulling the guardians to defend the gate, and so we moved, burning through the walls and creeping toward the building we knew to house the elevator.

As we approached, a great war machine exited the building. It was massive and sturdy and hovered slightly above the ground, and on its head it wore a crown, and from it blazed the Eye of Moloch, casting flame wherever it gazed. We paused to let it pass, knowing that the greatest defender of the elevator was now departed.

10

The scholar Li Xiao peered through the window of the elevator building, confirming it empty. The silence of death fell about us, allowing us to pass this barrier discretely, bringing the elevator within our grasp. We briefly contended with a previously unseen defender for control of the device, but Lantry danced an emerald flame about his neck, removing his head and allowing us to descend freely.

Below we found many abandoned Amerite ground vehicles, and the men that piloted them restrained nearby, their minds empty and yearning for the embrace of Mot. Rescue was not in our mission brief, and so we ignored them.

Beyond was a tunnel, lined with track but absent a train.

Li Xiao explained to us the proper ritual observances for invoking further 'IEDs' about the tunnel. She was not quite so versed in this practice as 10-K, but had studied the various rituals of the Amerites thoroughly, so we followed her instructions with great care.

This done, we elected to chase the tunnel to its terminus rather than return to the great battle above, embarking in one of the Amerite vehicles to speed our travel.

11

Partway through our journey, we felt a steady pressure building, accompanied by a great whooshing of the air, like as that generated by an enraged polyp of Kothar. We quickly abandoned our vehicle, summoning a divine chariot to propel us forward while cleaving to the roof of the tunnel, narrowly avoiding a train that barreled perilously beneath us. The train continued on, striking our abandoned ground vehicle, and then crumpled in on itself, the tunnel behind us erupting in a chaotic mass of twisted metal.

We proceeded further, until the final portion of the IED ritual completed, collapsing the entrance of the tunnel far behind us. We may have made some minor misstep in our observances, for at the invocation the whole of the earth began to shake, and the length of the tunnel began collapsing around us. Our chariot propelled us forth in its shining shell, but this was not swift enough, and we thought we might be pulled into the mouth of Mot, until Lantry, activating his own device, coiled his legs like springs and kicked off the wall to shoot us forward in a final push.

We emerged at another landing as the tunnel collapsed behind us, and then ascended another elevator shaft. And then we arrived at a hangar.

And within the hangar was something I had only before known from inscriptions on the walls of the Great Temple of Moloch in the heart of Uz: an intact Chariot of the Gods.

There were guardians there, but swiftly did the cousin of death fall upon them, and so we bound them and dragged them into the chariot, and Lantry severed one from his mind that he would teach us to fly.

12

Once ascended into the air, our divination tablets snapped to life, alerting us that Chief Belligerant Hegesh-Eth of the Amerites was preparing to invoke devastation upon Karsun. This was acceptable to us, because our mission was completed - the kidnapping ring was shattered, and the destruction of Karsun would only bury it further.

And so, piloting our new vessel, we rejoined with the other Special Agents. They themselves had seized a walking machine which they now rode astride, with taloned feet and black wings, as if Li-Lit herself stalked the earth. But atop its crown was the Eye of Moloch, and by this sign we knew it to be the great war machine from before, given new form by the divine powers wielded by our companions. They told us that Sahajim had died in the battle, but those surviving piloted the war machine into the chariot's hold, and then joined us in celebration of the great deeds done in the name of Delta Green this day.

13

And now we set our sight beyond, to the vast seas of night. We will ride our shining chariot across the sky, to seek the homes of the gods. Our captives tell me this vehicle can pass the gates of Kothar to leap between stars. We will learn all these secrets from them, and then eat of their flesh, and then see the great cities scattered across the firmament with our own eyes.
