Hagfish teem in great, writhing covens at the bottom of the sea. Buried in mud, they raise eyeless faces heavenward praying for corpsefall. And when it comes they ascend from the Abyss to feed. Rarely, a hagfish will seek to follow a school of adventuring fishes, feeding from the devastation left in their wake. They never leave a fallen companion behind.

Blindsense

Hagfish are blind, but they can sense living creatures by scent within 40m (120ft). This allows the hagfish a save vs. paralysis to negate surprise for any party they travel with.

Hagfish may also track living creatures within 1 hex on a 4-in-6 chance.

The dead cannot surprise a hagfish at all, may be tracked unerringly, and sensed within 160m (480ft).

Burrowing

Hagfish may burrow in mud, silt, or a corpse to hide, detected only on a 1-in-6 chance.

Loose Skin

Hagfish take half damage from jaws and crushing attacks.

Slime

Hagfish can produce slime a number of times per day, as listed above. This has two manifestations:

Hagfish themselves are immune to the effects of slime, as they easily scrape it from their bodies by tieing themselves into knots.
