Origin
He was born weak and raised ignorant, considered barely capable of even the simplest tasks, and so they called him 'Zero'. He found employ doing marginal work in high risk territory - menial labor, watching over bug herds at night, and serving as porter to scavengers.
It was on one such expedition that he met his fate. A devil digitizer had hired him to carry his equipment to an ancient cache. And when things went wrong - fellow porters and demon guardians alike slain - the digitizer severed the rope that was their only escape behind himself, dropping Zero back to the demon-haunted depths below.
The digitizer's own demons had already fallen. But one such, also near death and in great desperation, chose instead to make the pact.
Demon
The demon Hydra is a winged, 3-headed, golden serpent that dwells in sandstorms, it's wings swirling up microplastics and glass particulate to gather into electrostatic blasts.
Description
He is tall-ish and young-enough and poverty-thin, with sunken eyes. He keeps his hair medium-length but his beard shaved, though irregularly - he says to combat parasites. He wears a long off-white tunic, notably though not offensively stained, belted with knife and lantern (his pistol he wears concealed), with wooden sandals and a wide-brimmed cap.
When exerting devilish strength, his eyes are slitted and stupid and goggling, and his flesh ripples thick and sinewy, covered in golden scales.
Contacts
He has a mother in town. She is careless and messy, often intoxicated on the various substances available to the poor of the settlement. She calls him 'Zero' as well, though of course she knows that's not his name.
She says his father - who he has never known - was a scavenger, which is the worst kind of scum one could be. Gone now, though whether dead or simply dead to her, she has never admitted. She may once have been a scavenger, herself. This also she would never admit, but there is something there, something in the specificity of her disdain.
He may have half-siblings. She may have lived a whole other life. Somewhere long ago and far away, half-remembered.
